Game mods are one more reason to play your favorite titles on PC. Some of the best mods out there can bring critical UI upgrades, gameplay tweaks, breathtaking cutscenes, new stories and characters, mechanical additions, and out-of-this-world graphic overhauls. In this post, we’ve rounded up some of the most impressive video game mods graphics-wise, many of which can breathe new life even into decades old games.
1. Fallout 4 (2015): PhotoRealistic Commonwealth Mod
Released in 2015, Fallout 4 was not a visually impressive depiction of a post-apocalyptic world, but the PhotoRealistic Commonwealth mod by L00 has managed to make it insanely immersive and realistic. It is basically a cinematic reimagination of Bethseda’s award-winning title, which has taken everybody by storm with its revolutionary character creation system.
2. GTA V (2013) – Natural Vision Remastered
Rolled out in late 2018, the Natural Vision Remastered mod by Razed managed to turn an 8-year-old game into a jaw-dropping visual gem that looks like it was made yesterday. Natural Vision Remastered adds stunning weather effects, brighter colors, crisper textures, sleeker cars, and whatnots. The creator reportedly put thousands of hours into the mod, and looks forward similar impressive projects. You can support Razed’s future mod creation projects and get early access to countless goodies on Patreon.
3. Watch Dogs 1 (2014): Enhanced Reality Mod
At the date of its release -around seven years ago, Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs was one of the most realistic world designs in the gaming history. But it disappointed a bit due to a laundry list of design flaws and gameplay issues.
Following a visual downgrade of the action-adventure classic by its maker, the Enhanced Reality Mod did not manage to fix said in-game issues but made WD1’s graphics even more immersive. The mod comes with customizable graphics enhancement features, crisp textures and shadows, realistic weather effects, and a GPU-unfriendly ‘Ultra Uber’ setting.
4. Halo: Combat Evolved (2001): SPV3
Released in 2019, SPV3 is a game mod that has managed to turn a 2001 blockbuster into an entirely visually different game. So much work has been put into this mod that it even looks sleeker and more polished than Microsoft’s Halo CE Anniversary edition. The only downside of SV3 is that it has changed a bit too much the original faces and armor of UNSC marines, which might be a bit off-putting for its original fans.
5. Minecraft (2011): SEUS
Minecraft doesn’t shine bright in the visuals department, but Sonic Eather’s SEUS mod has managed to turn the visually bland sandbox-adventure classic into a commercially appealing eye candy even a complete rookie can fall in love with. SEUS comes with highly detailed textures, realistic weather effects, crisp cube textures, and stunning lighting effects after being many years in the making. The new mod brings a complete visual overhaul of the classic, which is why we added it to our list of jaw-dropping game mods everyone needs to give a try.
6. Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2013): Super Turbo Lightning Mod
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is already a beautiful and very moddable game, but one of the best graphics-enhancing mods out there, in our opinion, is the Super Turbo Lightning Mod by Essenthy. The mod adds new textures, impressive cut scenes, better lighting, sleek textures in a bid to turn the title into its predowngraded self.
You can pair this mod with dozen others to turn it into a visual beast. And if you are a big fan of Netflix’s ‘The Witcher,’ you can breathe new life into the original game with these cult-classic witcher 3 mods.
7. Resident Evil 2 (2019) – Re Immersion Reshade 2.0
Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 is already a stunner when it comes to visuals, but Jimmy AndresRg’s Re Immersion Reshade 2.0 mod managed to take it up a notch and make it one of the best looking survival horror games there is. The mod is not too complex, but it comes with sharper textures, brighter colors, genuine HDR, and horrifically realistic scenes after enhancing the game’s blue tones and taking full advantage of the seriously impressive RE engine.
