The source code of the first Xbox of Microsoft has leaked online, along with the code for a version of Windows NT 3.5. The source code for the Xbox includes the kernel for the operating system on the original console, a customized version of Windows 2000. We can confirm that the operating system Xbox leaked is authentic and has appeared online at the beginning of this month. “We’re aware of these reports and we are investigating,” said a spokesman for Microsoft in a statement.
While the leak of the operating system, the Xbox includes some of the build, the kit of development of Xbox, the emulators used for testing and internal documents, we know that this kernel and the source code were passed in private between the lovers earlier. This means that it is unlikely that additional aid efforts to emulate the original Xbox games.
There are a number of emulators for the Xbox, including CXBX, XQEMU and CXBX Reloaded, but most struggled to emulate the operating system and the kernel original Xbox. Microsoft has developed the first Xbox thinking of the x86 hardware, but the kernel the Xbox was based on a customized version and reduced for Windows 2000 with DirectX 8.
Emulators are not official, and have tried to replicate this kernel for years, but so far only about 40 games have emulation support is limited compared to 900 games available for the Xbox original. Microsoft has a own emulation proprietary for Xbox games and Xbox 360, but at the moment it is only available on Xbox One and not on a Windows PC.
In addition to this, has appeared online also the source code for an almost-finished version of Windows NT 3.5. The source code includes all the build tools needed, and should allow fans to dig in the old operating system. Because support for Windows NT 3.5 was completed in December 2001, the operating system is only used in a limited number of systems all over the world, then a leak of the source code is not a problem yet significant.
