The concept of celebrity in the gaming is rather new. While a developer legendary Shigeru Miyamoto could be considered once the closest thing to a celebrity in the world of gaming, streaming, and esports have brought to the hobby in a direction that would have seemed almost impossible only a decade ago. Now, the medium has figures that are much more recognizable, and perhaps none is more than Tyler “Ninja” Blevins. At the age of 28, the streamer, and the face of the Mixer has already built a legacy as impressive, but clearly has goals even larger. In an interview on the podcast True Geordie, Ninja has admitted his intention to become known as the greatest player of all time.

“I want to be remembered as one of the greatest players of all time, if not the largest. This could not happen, because, again, we don’t really know what it means to be the best. In the competitive environment, as a player and as a streamer, who will be the best?”.

Ninja poses an interesting question. With 14 million followers, the Ninja is easily the streamer more recognizable in circulation, however, this does not mean that all are able to identify it. For example, Lady Gaga doesn’t know who it was. In just 10 years of streaming, however, has clearly established a brand for himself, and knows how to expand it.

“I realized that I wanted to be more fun, more a character, and we are doing a lot to reach this goal. This is the goal, becoming a symbol and an icon”.

With the game industry in a time of growth without equal, it will be interesting to see if Ninja will reach a truly ambitious goal.
