The NPD has released sales data hardware and software for video games in the United States for the month of July. Nintendo Switch was the console most sold in the last month (and previous month) and continues to lead the charts for the hardware (via GamesBeat). Not only is the hardware sold in the US for the month of July, but also remains the console’s best-selling of the year so far.
In addition to the Switch, however, the market has slowed down and shows a decline compared to last year, which makes sense, considering that we are towards the end of the life cycle of the PS4 and Xbox One.
The hardware spending in July 2019 declined 22% on an annual basis, coming in at $ 169 million. Switch is the only console whose sales have increased up to today, with all the other hardware down.
The Switch has received many important games success over the years and many are still in need of to get. The console is at the peak of its life cycle and is receiving a new hardware revision, then, very probably, these strong sales are due to continue for the foreseeable future. On the contrary, with the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett not too far away, the console current-gen Sony and Microsoft might not go too well in the coming months.
