Released in may of 2018, State of Decay 2 proved to be a good success for Microsoft. The title, developed by Undead Labs (in the meantime became to all effects studio first party of the house of Redmond) has today reached 5 million players, as revealed by a senior designer, Quin Richards during a recent interview.
After reaching 1 million users already in the week of debut, State of Decay 2 has shown a progressive growth over the course of months to reach the figure of 4 million players at the end of 2018. The new record, certainly, achieved also thanks to the contribution of the Xbox Game Pass, it does not seem, however, to have satisfied the development team, that the microphones of the Polygon declared to be willing to “continue to grow” and further enrich the content package of the zombie game.
With the last DLC, Heartland, State of Decay 2 has brought the user to visit a setting already in the first chapter, and proposed an experience that was much more story driven compared with the features of the base game. Undead Labs has said that she has made an additional content of this type, after having listened to the feedback of the audience, evidently interested in discussing more in depth the side the narrative of the game.
With regard to the future expansion – adds Richards – you think “a mix between Heartland and the State of Decay 2 base, with elements of both narrative and procedural”. Judging from the efforts made by the developers with this second chapter, it seems that the arrival of State of Decay 3 is still several miles away, even if it’s already in the plans of the Unded Labs, and Microsoft.
