Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled has proven to be an excellent remake of the racing game made by Naughty Dog in 1999. A title that already at that time aimed to challenge Mario Kart on the ground of technicality, introducing some of the mechanics not really simple to master. For this reason, we have decided to make this video, a beginner’s guide with some tips to better face the competitions of the CTR.
Change the keys
The first thing that you should do as soon as you have started Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is to change the configuration of the keys. As you become accustomed to the classic one, in fact, have the accelerator, brake and power-ups on the keys in the front it is not particularly convenient. Better, then, to focus on alternative commands, which move the throttle on the right trigger, allowing you to act on any key, without ever having to give up and give great gas.
Departures at the top
As most of the games of kart and even Crash Team Racing allows you to start more quickly, provided you have the right timing. Have you noticed the black smoke coming from the exhaust if you accelerate before the green light? Well, if you can reach that condition in the moment in which part of the race, then you can count on one cue better than your opponents. But that’s not all, because you can get a boost even greater. It is enough to press the accelerator to load up the bar on the turbo and get a perfect start. To do this I suggest, however, to change the view of the turbo from the classic to the Nitro-Fueled.
The Super Drift
One of the greatest difficulties for those who switch from Mario Kart on CTR, or however you approach the game for the first time, you understand how to manage the drift. In the Crash, in fact, you do not get bonus simply by sliding the wheels on the asphalt: first of all, you have to jump before the bend to start the drift; in the second place it is necessary to keep an eye on the bar for turbo and press the button of the super slide at the right time. Only then will you get a bonus to acceleration and you can concatenate up to 3 bonuses in a single slide, with the speed that increases as the bar fills up. But be careful: if the bar fills up too much the engine overheats, causing you to lose all the bonus gained up to that time.
More jumps, more you go fast
Speaking of jumps, these are not only core to the drift. Jump in correspondence of a hill or a ramp, in fact, guarantees a speed bonus, once on the ground, the effectiveness of which depends on the distance traveled in the air. This in turn depends on the speed of departure, it should be kept in mind that it is not always a good idea to get a jump to the maximum speed, since the speed in the air is lower and this could get you fired in some of the circuits.
The power of the Fruits Wumpa
The fruits Wumpa are an iconic element of the series, Crash Bandicoot, and certainly could not miss in the CTR. Here their role is simple: to increase the speed of the kart. This in fact increases as the player collects them along the circuit, until to reach its maximum when you accumulate 10. But that’s not all, because the fruits enhance the power ups and weapons: potions, for example, turn from green to red, and in addition to detonate the victim to make it appear the cloud of Fantozzi on its head, slowing it down; the shield, instead, increases its life, and remains active until you are hit by a weapon. Therefore, it is fundamental to always have 10 fruits, collecting all those present in the track every time if you lose someone, after a hit or when you fall off the track.
Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled winning is not important: it is the only thing that matters. For this you can use any strategy and subterfuge to get first to the finish line. Some examples: place a exploding potion immediately a case; or be overcome by an opponent that is at calcagne to send him out of the game with a missile. The important thing is to try to use the power-ups, always with intelligence, to gain an advantage at the right time: some power-ups are offensive, like potions for example, I can also be used in the defensive phase to protect yourself from a missile incoming. In this regard, it is appropriate to remember that power ups like potions and bombs can be thrown both forward, both backward, depending on the needs. In short, do not be in a hurry to get rid of whatever you get and try to keep the weapons most suited to your position in the ranking.
A cash TNT (not) forever
Ok, you were on the trail of the leader of the race and you are too close, off to check out the cash TNT that he had shrewdly kept straight in the head. You were short-sighted, but do not worry, because in this case all is not lost: you can in fact get rid of your cash just before it explodes. Just jump five times and, behold, the cash will detach from you and it will explode once it reached the ground. In the same way, however, also be careful not to come closer too much to the opponents hit by these dangerous red chests, because you might end up involved in the explosion.
These were our tips for the beginners Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled. However, there are many other mechanics that can help you cross the finish line first: we are waiting in the comments to know what are the ones that you feel are the most effective.
